Jane Austen Centre



Visit The Jane Austen Centre to delve into the life of one of Bath's most famous residents and Britain’s favourite author. Take the Bath Abbey Tower Tour to see the different, working side of this iconic landmark. Ascend 212 steps to the top, and you will climb past the ringing chamber to the bell chamber, to have the chance to stand above Bath Abbey’s vaulted ceiling and sit behind the clock face. Once you reach the roof, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views over the city and surrounding countryside.

Explore the Bath Skyline along miles of waymarked footpaths. There is the Walk to the view - a circular three miles from the city centre out to the countryside and back, a circular 2 miles around the Family Discovery Trail, accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs, or the full six miles of the ever-popular Bath Skyline walk.

Architectural Splendour



Enjoy a free walking tour of Bath, including the main points of historical and architectural interest with the Mayor of Bath's Honorary Guides.  Regular twice daily tours last approximately two hours and no booking is required. Additional evening tours and tours of the Pulteney Estate take place twice a week in the summer. The walks start outside the Pump Room in Abbey Church Yard at the sign board 'Free Walking Tours Here'.

Jane Austen Festival



The Jane Austen Festival in Bath is the largest and longest running Jane Austen Festival in the world. The first Jane Austen Festival in 2001 took place over a weekend at The Jane Austen Centre, Bath, and has since grown into a 10 day programme, drawing over 3500 people from around the world.

The Bath Festival, the city’s biggest and oldest arts festival, is a celebration of books and music and takes place in May.


The opening night, Party in the City is free and the city comes alive with music from a wide range of genres filling the city from various venues.

Taking over Royal Victoria Park, the Foodies Festival brings the UK’s biggest food festival featuring top chefs, tasty food, delicious drinks and live music to Bath in June.

Europe's largest children's literature festival takes place in early October.
